IIUC you want to run an infinite loop in background and continue using the jconsole session at the same time. This is impossible because J is not asynchronous or multi-threaded. If J is sleeping, it can't be waked up by events until time-out. On jqt, which has an event loop, there are timer events yo workaround as suggested by other forum members.
