You probably mean something else entirely,  but just in case it helps,  the hot 
key combination ctrl-shift-up arrow goes back up previous commands; 
ctrl-shift-down moves back to the present.  Iirc, this feature was available in 
J from the very beginning,  inherited from Sharp APL, or the like,  I believe.

Sorry if I’ve misunderstood the question!
