After further investigation I am not getting a valid image. My confusion was
due to the fact that I was also experimenting with ‘graphics/jpeg’ that does
seem to work.

The mac monterey pplatimg readimg does not work at all giving back _1’s though
it provides the correct width and height for the image. the MAT global in the
pplating library does not seem to be getting initialized in the calls to the
core graphics routines under mac monterey.

I will use graphics/jpeg for now

I am trying to reimplement Terry Harms 2013 talk at the strange loop conference
available on YouTube. I believe the example of removing a shadow from a photo
was taken from an example on Oleg’s site. He was using Oleg’s old pplatimg
library which I believe has been updated into the ‘graphics/pplatimg’ library.

I will continue to investigate but I am beginning to regret moving on to
Monterey so soon. I have a couple of applications that no longer work properly
(not J related) since I made the move.
