I don't know Linux or Mac. But in window. If you need interprocess 
communication use CreateProcess api, see Oleg's site for examples.
If you do not, just use ShellExecute eg.
'shell32 ShellExecuteA i i *c *c *c i i'&cd (0&"[EMAIL PROTECTED] 'qhwndp') ; 'open' 
; 'prog.exe' ; 'args' ; 0 ; 1
