Only for non-empty y1 and y2.

Maybe I don't understand your question, but haven't you 
already identified such a mechanism?

Here's a question for you: is it possible to have an
empty collection of empty array jokes?  Or would an
empty collection of empty array jokes itself be an
empty array joke, thus defeating the point?
