Rule has been simplified, some bidents give syntax error dependent on context.

In J7 (13 years ago) relevant rules are,
$=(   v   v    ?    hookv
$=(   ac  ac   ?    hookc
$=(   c   nv   ?    bond
$=(   nv  c    ?    bond

but some constructs become illegal in J5
