I followed your model to keep the state of parsing and select some data. The performance of my script could perhaps be improved, but it is amply sufficient for my current need. Note to other users and JSoft: the sflxml script (in the sfl addon) I had initially tried refused my xml string reporting it as invalid while a public validator checks it ok. Is this sfl parser outdated or buggy?
