Bill,

Finally I am beginning to understand slightly. I can
see correctly all of the original posts by Istvan Kadar if I
cut and paste from my gmail gui reader into my jw (java) ide
window if I configure the font IK suggested. I did not
realize that cutting and pasting from a gui reader was
required. (Actually, I am also able to cut and paste from my
ascii/utf8 email reader to the reconfigured jw for IK's neg
and null, but not for pos. I can't figure that out, but am
not really concerned.)

Do NOT read the rest of this post. After writing it
I have decided that the first paragraph says enough. The
rest of the post only serves to show my continuing
confusion. But that's OK, because I have what I need for
now.

Initially, among other things, I was trying to ask
how I could get the characters or encodings (I only now
realized that characters and encodings are different from
one another; the distinction did not sink in until I tried
again and again to understand your posts and returned to the
Vocabulary.) entered directly from the keyboard. Now I see
that such direct keyboard entry is not possible, and that
only integers can be used from the keyboard -- well, *my*
keyboard with my current knowledge, anyhow.

Can anyone confirm that the correct terminology is
that the integer lists IK uses, for example, to define the
"micromodel" as in the next line is a list of "encodings"?

  4&u:111 800 65 800 66 800 67 800 88 800 89 800 90 800

I am confused about the difference between the
integers above and the list of integer triples resulting
from the use of 3&u: with char or wchar "values". Also, of
what use are such triples? This question comes because I can
see no dyadic u: that takes these triples as an argument.

(I suspect the two different types of integer
representations are utf and ucs encodings, but if that is
so, which is which?)
