I disagree. Worst case you have to write it into a file. And the most annoying thing about that would not be the time it takes to do so, but the operating system dependencies it probably must introduce. I will grant that the design of the Intel instruction set can make efficient code generation a costly process and that it might in Intel's best interests to obscure those costs. On the flip side, if a person is willing to make a few simplifying assumptions, interesting results can be had even without achieving some ultimate theoretical performance. -- Raul
