Just to confuse things, some programs still display the underscore before the ALT key is pressed (Netscape for one). Personally I would prefer that the underscore always display because without it I would have to wait until after I pressed the ALT key to find out what letter key to press after the underscore is added.

It's selectable on the Display->Appearance->Effects->Hide underlined... setting.
