I am not sure what exactly is a dialog style in J. But in window/VB, a dialog (modal form) is created using a different api (createdialogbox?) versus modeless form (createwindow), and because call to the api createdialogbox will not return until the dialog form is destroyed, so that the calling routine does not need a wait to suspense execution. It will be nice if J also support this behavior.

All the docs say is

   pc dialog creates a window that has a
dialog box frame, that is, it cannot be resized.
Is there more to it? Does it disable events & act like
a 'wait'? If it just changes the border, that's not
enough.

Can you not use a form with the dialog style to get your answer?

I don't find 'dialog' in the Index.
He means a modal box. As in

   pc formName dialog;

Or, using the form editor, double click the background of the form, and under "styles" select "dialog".
