The image3 addon does not support controlling an external movie player.  
You might be able to use OLE to do this on Windows, I'm not sure.

There aren't intel mac binaries of the image3 addon.  If you're familiar
with C, you could try building your own Intel Mac binaries; the image3 
source code is available at
http://www.cs.lafayette.edu/~reiterz/image3-source.tar.gz
