I would like a means to view patterns in 2-dimensional matrices using a 3-d
utility, for example, the residual patterns from a statistical model fit.
Such a matrix is row x columns of numbers above and below zero. It would be
really great to be able to display this matrix as 3-d bars (one for each
cell) and then be able to rotate it to search for any subtle patterns.

 

I have had an initial look at OpenGL and it looks like it could provide the
means to do this but it is at initial glance a bit daunting to venture into.
So before plunging in, I thought I'd enquire the forum to see if anyone has
already done this.
