As Devon pointed out, I accidentally transposed the arguments to i.
when I posted. Other than that, the function works. Yours is much more
compact of course. I wish I knew why yours works without the extra ,
and ~. and mine doesn't. They seem to take the same time and space, so
I'm puzzled overall.
