Or, take the advice given earlier and just
gulp in the file with something like readcsv,
and get on with the actual problem.
A 64bit machine costs little today and less
tomorrow.
Its hard to imagine a *real* file that cannot be handled
in a 64bit machine.
From the earliest days in our industry wise
heads have said its not worth yr time programming
around hw limits.
