if you want to learn an APL language, j is probably the best way to
go.  it's 'free', it's ASCII and it's got lots of documentation and
tutorials and a very helpful community.

ok, i don't think j is going to help with your immediate problem.  j
is the right answer, but for a different question.  you need to
identify the dialect of APL that is running your app and ask the java
question of the community that supports it.
