Raul,

Almost!  (I hadn't seen or had forgotten about it.)  It does set the pwd
for future shell commands, apparently, but shell doesn't pick up my
cygwin path.  That's a problem, because mod, among other things, is most
easily found on $PATH, so shell fails, and spawn is silent:

|    shell 'mod sir.model'
| 'mod' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
| operable program or batch file.
| 
|    spawn 'mod sir.model'

That's still on 6.01, FWIW.

I can see that would be handy in other situations.
