If so, what's the goal of that efficiency?

(I decided to use a boxed list of strings instead
of a list of characters because I would have
generalized this problem by adding more complicated
data -- as opposed to going for longer strings of
characters.)

Anyways... something to think about.  (But if this
thread diverges away from programming perhaps we
should move this to the general forum?)
