Stitch is similar to ,"0
   'abc',"0'def'
ad
be
cf
   'abc',"0'de'
|length error
| 'abc' ,"0'de'

It's not the same, of course
   (2 3$'abcdef'),.'gh'
   (2 3$'abcdef'),"0 'gh'
but hopefully this simple analogy will help illustrate
something of what's happening here.
