Pardon me for butting in on this one, but it seems to me
that the easiest and least disruptive means of modifying
numeric displays in the various manners suggested would
be to extend the !. when applied to ": so that simple
verbs could be defined to give a variety of display modes
to suit individual needs.
Alternatively, !. could be provided to apply to ] and [
to control the details of the display. This could leave
the numeric result numeric but propagate the display mode
through a calculation in much the same way that exact
calculation propagates. The details I leave to minds
more agile than mine, which is blurred by watching the
AFL Grand Final with accompanying refreshments.
