I tried the batch utility that comes with it and it seems to do a decent job of
text extraction.

I don't believe so. I've parsed PDF in the past, and it was ad-hoc. If you
can post an example PDF document we might be able to get you started. Parsing
can be a fun exercise.
Hmm, actually the Forum doesn't permit attachments. So if you want to post an
example, you can do it on the Wiki.
