Clearly that gives the right answer but does not answer the underlying
question. I understand that this is relatively elementary, but getting a
better handle on the execution difference between 1: + 2: * i.5 and (1:
+ 2: * i.)5 will help those new to the concepts understand what the heck
is going on here.

Can anybody point me toward an article or essay or something which explains
in some detail how things work differently when verbs are executed within a
defined verb verses how the individual verbs would act in the main
interpreter window? An example of what I am trying to understand comes from
the vocabulary entry on rank -
odds=: 1: + 2: * i.
odds 5
is evaluated differently than
1: + 2: * i.5
and I would like to understand the difference.
