I'm chasing one now. I've reverse-engineered an interesting series to a point where it shows a clearly fractal nature. I've captured part of the pattern in a surprisingly succinct verb, whose discovery gave me a moment of joy. But another part still eludes me. I'd rather not post the actual series, lest I spoil the hunt for myself. So what I'm looking for are tips, techniques, or advice on how to diagnose fractals. That is, given a series whose plot is obviously self-similar, but whose generating function is not immediately clear, how to discover that generating function. By the way, J is amazing for this kind of work. -Dan PS: Is there a good word for "happy surprise"? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For information about J forums see http://www.jsoftware.com/forums.htm
