Following John's lead, you could apply a self-juxtaposing simple transform--
scale, shift, rotate--over subsets of the sequence. If they match, you got 
self-similarity.

The trasform params are good to be bound with track controls near plot.
And you got yourself an interactive self-similarity probe.

Yes, the question is truly "how could I tell that from the plot?".
