Not yourself, but your lazy apprentice, would give up on hammers and nails if 
the jobs are easily done by screws and screwdriver alone. 

I find this discussion on simplification very interesting, even if I do not 
grasp all the details. 

Simplifying expressions is the crux of computing. J simplifies nouns, 
   2+2
4
and
   1 2 3 + 4 5 6
5 7 9
but not verbs
   2&p. + 2&p.
2&p. + 2&p.
and
   1 2 3&p.+4 5 6&p.
1 2 3&p. + 4 5 6&p.
I wonder why not.

I also wonder if there is any difference between (2"0) and (2&p.) .
