Probably -- the  `''  is a force of habit.  It's a very useful phrase for 
adverbial programming.

As for the rest of your post, I suggest you try your various  ae*  with a 
larger variety of inputs.  In particular, inputs with
nested expressions using parens.

That's not to say my method couldn't be improved.  It could.  It was a proof of 
concept, if you will.  I put together the initial
script in a few minutes.

Maybe.  I think it's ambiguous.  I could make a strong argument that it's 
documented, but it does take a degree of interpretation.
In any event, I'm confident this behavior is reliable.  That is, it won't 
change in future versions of J.
