You can map same file from two different J sessions to read and write. I have 
experienced this and it works. For example you can have a result file mappe and 
one process to write the first half of the result file and and other process to 
write the second half.

I am interested to know if someone has used the same file at the same

I can imagine it being ok to at least write to it from one session and
reading it at the same time from other sessions.
