I do not know specifically about J5, however: [1] to get line numbers, J needs to have debugging enabled. [2] line numbers in explicit definitions require that the topmost word in the definition be : and they are reported relative to the location of the name. If you want to find them in the file, you have to find the location of the definition of the name within the file.
