I couldn't have expressed that any better.

Having faults occur at a place different than at the source that needs
to be fixed is a major obstacle and discourages me from sinking any
time into it.

I also disliked the svn/pacman approach of separating svn-managed
J code from J code which gets actually run.  It was way over my
head to get to grips with it.  (I'm not saying that lightly.  Often
enough, I'm banging my head against the walls of "automake" madness
in Unix land, with enough patience to eventually get things fixed.)
