(www.vector.org.uk/archive/v233/tji.htm) which describes
the problem I faced.
See also "Teaching Professional Computing"
(eprints.utas.edu.au/2605) which describes the context
in which I used tacit J to teach first semester first
year students a bit about functional programming interactively
using tacit J.
I think I have the lessons and lesson material stashed
away somewhere. If anyone would like to check them
out and maybe put them up in the wiki or elsewhere
just let me know.
