Not sure which particular tutorial you referred to, but I guess the addons/demos/gtk/felidae1 would be a sensible start. If you need just reading (not actual C compiling) the first few chapters of the gtk tutorial in the help menu to understand the basic principle of gtk programming.
click on the glade file inside felidae1 project will bring up the glade interface designer if it has been installed.
