I'm assuming from the context that you are using the JHS interface. I imagine it will help people provide assistance regarding toolbars and stars etc if you mention which web browser you are using.
Regarding shortcuts in JHS, you should use the shortcut key displayed on the menu after pressing Esc. So to advance labs, first press (and release) the Esc key, then press a.
