I like "desert" too,  so have just tried this out,
under Windows Vista 32 bit.

I followed your suggestions,  without any changes
(initially) to your (Devon's) xml script.

Here are two error messages which appear in the GTK
console window (I'm adding some line-throws):

D:\j701>"D:\j701\bin\jconsole" gtkide

(jconsole.exe:7696): GtkSourceView-WARNING **:
could not parse scheme file
'd:/j701/user/config\termDarkBackground.xml'

(jconsole.exe:7696): GtkSourceView-WARNING **:
no color named 'yellow'

I've added the definition for 'yellow',  but still get
the "could not parse" message.  Nevertheless,  the
screens are suitably blue,  so it can't be too bad.
