I was actually merely quoting from Ken Iverson.  He laid out these rank-
related terms in Chapter 6 ("Terminology") of "Exploring Math", which 
he quoted in his paper "Computers and Mathematical Notation".  In both 
places he noted, "The terms LIST, TABLE, and REPORT are used in J with 
meanings familiar to anyone, whereas the corresponding terms VECTOR, 
MATRIX, and ARRAY might be known only to specialists."  (I uppercased 
his original italicized words.)

I just figured that, as the inventor of the language, he had the 
prerogative of determining the "proper" vocabulary and terminology.
