I tried installing on WinXP with and without admin rights.

When you have rights the installer works. If you do not have admin rights
it pops up a window which says you must be logged in as an administrator.
This is the way a lot of installers work.

If it's easy to create an installer that does not require admin rights it
would support a larger audience of potential users.
