I think using tara is simple enough, First install tara addon from JAL, then try the following,
load'tables/tara' readexcel jpath '~addons/tables/tara/test/test.xls' +--------+------+--------+ |1 |_2.2 |3.33 | +--------+------+--------+ |4.444 |5.5555|_6.66666| +--------+------+--------+ |hi there|3.3555|1 | +--------+------+--------+ |0 |test |2 | +--------+------+--------+ |there |38335 | | +--------+------+--------+ there are other options and verbs that you may learn from its lab. To read xlsx format files, you need Ric's taraxml addon.
