There are a variety of things to consider here:
Which pieces do we want to visualise? Real-time parts (e.g. searches)?
Non-real-time parts (e.g. paper counts from various locations)?
What kind of visualisation is appropriate? Things out there with good
documentation include Google Maps overlays, the Google WebGL globe, and
endless infographic toolkits.
Does it matter what technology (HTML5, JS, Flash, whatever) we use? As
long as we can generate static images for users without, anything is
probably okay.
