 Searching as a one-off is pretty easy.  In fact it's basically done (for
 SPIRES syntax for the cc index), but it's pretty hack-y.

 The parser and the way that its regular expressions are written will
 complicate the addition of additional second order operators.  This is
 probably a good thing to clean up, anyway, so that e.g. "refs" could be
 introduced as a shortcut for refersto, or whatever, in the future.

 I would like to clean this up, anyway, and I don't really have a
 preference for how the new syntax is implemented.
