Hi Jay, In the book I have for lucene, the faceted browsing is mentioned with the QueryFilter - ie. that is the lucene-way implementation of it http://lucene.apache.org/java/3_0_1/api/all/org/apache/lucene/misc/ChainedFilter.html
Here is one extension written for Lucene (which is for structured data, therefore perfect for ADS/Invenio) http://code.google.com/p/bobo-browse/ Though I have never tried one of those myself, bobo also supports solr, but it seems to me it can run independtly of it - there are some folders in the source tree that do not require solr jars.
