In the book I have for lucene, the faceted browsing is mentioned with
the QueryFilter - ie. that is the lucene-way implementation of it

Here is one extension written for Lucene (which is for structured
data, therefore perfect for ADS/Invenio)

Though I have never tried one of those myself, bobo also supports
solr, but it seems to me it can run independtly of it - there are some
folders in the source tree that do not require solr jars.
