I use the default Git package available in CentOS. Currently it is git
version 1.5.5.6.
I did replace my hard drive and reinstalled my host OS: Mac OS X 10.6.3.
I did have to modify my uid and gid in VMWare in order to restore the
permissions of my Linux VM.
I suspect that one of these actions screwed up the git indexes and that
files appear as modified when they have not changed.
