1) Making alert box more prominent is definitely something we wanted
to do since some time, together with easy-sort-and-rank and
faceted-search UI improvements, see the old mock-up page at
<https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/CDS/InvenioUsabilityResultsClustering>.
The alert box has a prominent place there.
2) Concerning alert links not being displayed for guests, this is
probably a CERN template backporting bug. The released version of
Invenio, as well as the development git/master version, offer those
links, naturally. It is a kind of invitation to register an account,
so we should not miss to display them. We'll look at and fix the CDS
templates.

Andre Holzner, an LHC physicist, pointed out today that the search alerts in
CDS are difficult to discover since they are below all the search results
(which could be several pages long). He (and I) would like them to be more
prominent on the search result page.
Some suggestions toward this goal:
- Display alert links between the search field(s) and the results.
- Simplify the alert part of the interface. Perhaps "Receive search updates
via email / web feed" with links on the last words would be enough.
- Display alert links even when users are not logged in. It shouldn't be
necessary to log in to set up either.
