Update of task #11895 (project cdsware):

                  Status:               Need Info => Invalid
             Open/Closed:                    Open => Closed

Follow-up Comment #4:

The RSS/Atom output on our production machine is still produced using CDS
Invenio v0.99.0

In the meantime additional (undeployed) improvements should have fixed the
validity of the feed. For eg:

http://cdsware.cern.ch/repo/?p=cds-invenio.git;a=commit;h=e0b28493edc03b3790a50e81d0814ca91730a22a

(So I close this task. We can open a new one if there are still some concerns
with the validity of the feed)

How to reproduce:
1. Install Thunderbird 2.0.0.23.
2. Create an account for web feeds.
3. Subscribe to the feed <http://cdsweb.cern.ch/rss?cc=Weekly%20Bulletin>.
4. Wait for Thunderbird to refresh the feed twice.

What happens:
On the second and subsequent refreshes, a duplicate of each item in the feed
appears as unread.

What should happen:
Only one copy of each item should appear in the feed reading list.

Possible cause:
The feed is not valid Atom:
<http://validator.w3.org/feed/check.cgi?url=http%3A%2F%2Fcdsweb.cern.ch%2Frss%3Fcc%3DWeekly%2520Bulletin>

Other information:
I'm running Ubuntu 9.04.
I've subscribed to 20+ other feeds where this problem does not appear.

Thanks for the update. I've verified that it doesn't get duplicated anymore,
but the feed is still invalid.

I was not able to reproduce this behavior using Thunderbird 2.0.0.23 (on
Ubuntu 9.04). Tested on our production machine + with latest GIT sources, on
different collections feeds.

Do you use some other particular settings?

Note that the collection you subscribed "Weekly Bulletin" was recently
"updated" (2-3 weeks ago) to support localized RSS, so it might have had some
impact on this case (though I don't know how it could..). Also I discovered
that Thunderbird was going further in de-duplicating items of a feed, as it
would see the items of the following feeds as exactly the same (not its
fault, they are the same, but in different languages)

It is sometimes used, for example:

Looks like the file to cleanup is
modules/websearch/lib/websearch_templates.py. It might help if it used only
RSS or Atom instead of both in the same file - IIRC they overlap nearly
100%.

Minor note: xmlns:media="http://search.yahoo.com/mrss/"; doesn't seem to be
used anywhere.
