This one should not be necessary because there is a:

   avg_score = str(avg_score)

just a line before your code snippet.

I'm sorry!  I casted two avg_scores to str in 0.90.1 and I tried
to apply the patch in current CVS.  First didn't apply, because
it's already fixed, but the second succeeded.  That's why I didn't
look further.
