Ok, the relevance of this branch is much less obvious to me than it was.
I observe that in nature, the search failure suggestion links work
correctly for everything except the journal case, which this branch
doesn't fix. This branch *does* have some nice aesthetic fixups and
performance improvements, but they don't seem to be sufficient reason to
commit it, without specifically addressing whatever it is that's making
starred journal search fail.
As far as I can tell though it's only starred journal search that's
failing, so I'm inclined to think this is less important than I had
thought before.
