Dear all,

I ran into this Python tool:
https://github.com/openplanets/fido
http://www.openplanetsfoundation.org/software/fido

"Format Identification for Digital Objects (FIDO) is a Python command-line tool to identify the file formats of digital objects. It is designed for simple integration into automated work-flows."

It's based on the file format registry PRONOM ( http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/PRONOM/Default.aspx) and it has no other dependencies. It's licensed under the Apache License Version 2.0.

I thought it might be of interest.

Best regards,

Nikos
