this is currently not easy to implement because you would need to hide
collections in two places: splash pages generated offline by webcoll and the
dropdown menu list of collections in advanced search. The latter being very
easy to implement, the former being somehow an issue for performance.

One could, however, probably even think in the direction of not
showing/generating spalsh pages for such hidden collection in general,
if the performance impact is too great and/or caching is preferable. It
could probably well be that quite a number of installations are not so
big and/or have not so many queries that they would not feel any hits in
real life.
But as Tibor mentioned there's another ticket in that direction it's
probably wise to postpone the point.
