I'd strongly suggest that you take some time to go over all variables in invenio.conf (it has quite some docs within). It might prove helpful later on if you know that you "read something about this". In case it helps I could provide you with our local conf, but we run a 1.0 stable. Also note that customization concerning styles is done in in CSS files in var/img/.
