Maybe I'm entirely on the wrong track here. I refered to the stuff outlined in Chris thesis (http://cds.cern.ch/record/1376677). There an authority record is just proposed to live in collection AUTHORITY and this is just a normal collection created "by hand", in our setup by scripts calling the APIs. To link authors and publications we use functionality in websubmit, where you select the people on the paper. To facilitate this for the users we use some (more or less) clever guessing algorithm to suggest authors. At DESY e.g. if we ingest from Inspire and get IDs from them we use them to do an automatic matching provided our profiles know the IDs. We could do the same for ORCiDs e.g. if we know them and so on. What we don't do is the automagic matching stuff like Inspires turtles and rabbits. This clustering and stuff would not work on our repo anyway, cause we don't have enough records for each field of research to get any sensible statistics.
