Job Title: Cognos Developer Location: Rochester, NY Duration: 3+ Months Contract Job Description : This position will assist with defining and implementing appropriate Cognos solutions to support business strategies and BI initiatives. The individual will play a key role in the overall Cognos architecture, configuration, administration, and development of the Cognos applications as well as assisting with data warehouse architecture and design, dimensional modeling, and report authoring. Experience with a disciplined SDLC process to translate business requirements into technical design documents is required. Responsibilities Work with business analysts, end users, and data architects to understand and define the information delivery requirements and supporting structure for the Cognos application. Assist with the design of reporting data marts and the process that support these data marts Supply prototypes of proposed Cognos solutions to end users for review and approval. Design accurate and user-friendly presentation of enterprise data through Cognos Framework Manager Packages. Identify appropriate Cognos components (Metrics Manager, Report Studio, Analysis Studio, SDK, etc.) and design requirements to support effective information delivery across the enterprise. Assist business analysts with complex reporting requirements, assisting in design and/or troubleshooting efforts. Support education and communication efforts as a collaborative BI Team effort, with specific individual focus on the Cognos toolset. Assist with managing the support desk relationship and status of open support issues with Cognos. Identify and communicate with other areas involved in the BI process all necessary aspects that may affect project deliverables. Participate in quality management reviews of BI solutions. Sitting, working at desk / personal computer for extended periods of time Ability to travel commercially Must posses valid drivers license Job Requirements: Minimum of 5-7 years experience with Cognos with 3-4 years of Cognos 8 & 10, including Framework Manager, Query Studio, Report Studio, Metrics Manager, Data Manager, Access Manager, and/or SDK strongly required. Must have a broad understanding of data warehousing, dimensional modeling, and enterprise reporting Capabilities. Strong analytical and communication skills are required. Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or an equivalent field of study is required. Position requires 5 years of experience with progressively increased levels of IT experience. Must have demonstrated the ability to work as a member of an enterprise team. Experience with and understanding of SDLC and IT Change Management processes. Ability to translate business requirements into technical design specifications and to effectively execute those specifications or manage the execution of those specifications.
