1. Refer to multiple books

Refer to multiple books and sources of information. Some books are good in
some areas while some are good in other areas.

For example, the Head First book is very easy to read ad thebest book to
start with, to get initial east understandings with its easy explanations
and examples, but is not so good when it comes the numericals.

Rita Mulcahy’s book is excellent for numericals and good to read at a later
stage of your preparation.

2. Join a study and discussion group

Recommended to join a discuss group so that you can exchange notes....not
only from your studies but also from your project management experiences.
Exchanging notes and discussing is one of the best ways to clear doubts and
queries you would have.

3. Take a PMP class

Even though PMI does not mandate that you should take a study class and you
can still claim PDUs for your project management related activities at
work, it is better to take a PMP class because the project management
practices you are following at work may not be as recommended by the PMBOK,
and this will lead to incorrect understanding of processes.

4. Use Flashcards

Flashcards will help you prepare on the go. Preparing for PMP requires a
high degree of concentration and focus, so you need to be able to revise
and prepare even when you are travelling or not at your study desk.

5. Use a study plan

Absolutely critical to have a study plan so that you are following a
structured study methodology to cover all the portions evenly and get an
understanding of all the knowledge areas and processes. Remember…PMP
requires that you clear ALL the sections.

6. Take practice tests smartly

There is a natural tendency to go over the areas which you like and are
comfortable with, more often, and not focus on those you don’t like. But
the objective of practice tests is to identify which are your weak areas,
so that you can focus on those. So as important as it is to take the test,
it is even more important to analyse your results and identify your weak
areas for improvemen.
